Divisions of Korea

A Brief History of Korea
- From 2333 B.C. to A.D. 1910, Korea was self ruled as a series of empires.
They oten worked with China.
Did not get along with Japan.
Known as Hermit Kingdom during the 19th Century..
1910-1945: Korea was occupied by Japan,
then World War Two came...

Alittle More History...
-Japan was defeated in WWII
-1947, UN divided Korea in two halves at the 38th parallel
-Soviet Union administers the N. half
-US administers the S. half
This was suppoesd to be temporary....

Division of Korea
USSR and US could not agree on a government.
-Soviets set up Communist gov't in the North, ruled by Kim Il-Sung
-US sets up pro-Western, democratic gov't in the S.
